Kate Wilhelm is the author of more than three dozen books, including four Barbara Halloway thrillers: Death Qualified, The Best Defense, Malice Prepense, and Defense for the Devil. Her fiction has been translated into many languages and received such honors as the Prix Apollo, the Nebula Award, and the Kurd Lasswitz Award. She and her husband, Damon Knight, helped found the Science Fiction Writers of America organization and the influential Clarion Writer Workshop, at which they taught for many years. They and their family live in Eugene, Oregon.
Kate Wilhelm won The Hugo Award in 1977 for "Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang".
