Audio Book Description
Released from prison, Shadow finds his world turned upside down. His wife has been killed; a mysterious stranger offers him a job. But Mr. Wednesday, who knows more about Shadow than is possible, warns that a storm is coming -- a battle for the very soul of America ... and they are in its direct path.

One of the most talked-about books of the new millennium, American Gods is a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth and across an American landscape at once eerily familiar and utterly alien. It is, quite simply, a contemporary masterpiece.

Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5 Gotta love Neil! Anonymous Posting on January 29 2008

I love listening to this man‘s work. It‘s so... OUT THERE. What an imagination he has, and how he manages to tie it all together and make everything seem a little plausible if you just open your own mind. He is the master at true storytelling. The first Neil Gaiman book I read (heard) was Anansi Boys and was completely unprepared for the craziness of it. But, it stays with you, some of the lines and poetically written scenes. Worth the rent, for certain! :)

This is a funny, imaginative, and rousing adventure. It seems a bit long but the tale is fresh and keeps your attention. It‘s a story that will stay with you long after reading.

I didn‘t know what to expect when I ordered this. I took it on Stephen King‘s high recommendation. I didn‘t want to stop listening. The story draws you in and suddenly you want to know what‘s happpening next. Wonderfully narrated it it one of the best audiobooks I have listened to. Highly recommended.

Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5 a masterwork
by William on June 29 2007

American Gods is a masterwork of Modern Fiction. Gaiman (of Sandman Comic fame) expertly and perfectly blends Old World Mythologies with Modern Middle America. This may be one of the most imaginitive books I have ever read or audio-read. Narrator Guidall is also at the top of his game providing the listener with a voice of grit and reality that I have rarely seen rivaled.

However, listener be forewarned that this book is R-Rated and contains quite a bit of sex, violence and profanity.
