It seems like everywhere you look, someone’s listening to an iPod. The iPod and the MP3 player in general, has revolutionized the way we listen to music. No longer do we have to be limited to the songs that can fit on a CD player to listen to music in our cars. No longer are we limited by cassettes or CDs that fit into a walkman. With iPods, we can listen to as much of a variety of music as will fit on the tiny device. And with the memory of iPods increasing, that adds up to a lot of music. However, music isn’t the only thing an iPod is good for. You can also watch movies, you can listen to your favorite radio station pod casts, and you can even read. That’s right. iPod audio books are a great way to get in your reading when you just don’t have time to sit down with a good book. You can still get that reading experience while listening to the words on your iPod. This may be just what our society needs to spark our interest in reading again. The Printing Press
When the printing press was invented, people read everything they could get their hands on. Well, the ones who could read at least. Soon, newspapers and books and magazines came out and that’s how people received their information. Then, as technology increased, we got the TV and movies. However, even with TV and movies, people still read books. Nowadays, it seems as though the book, and the act of reading books, is slowly going the ways of the dinosaurs. Nobody likes to read anymore it seems. However, once people start listening to iPod audio books, we may see an increase in reading again; an increase that we haven’t seen in quite some time. Why Reading?
When you watch a movie or watch TV, you are essentially hypnotized. Also, you’re only receiving information to your eyes and your ears. There is no sense of touch involved, no sense of taste, or smell. With reading, you can experience all these things. You can see how that blueberry feels, the way it’s cold to the touch having just came out of the refrigerator, you can feel it burst in your mouth when you bite into it, taste it and even smell it. You can get all of this with reading. You can’t get this kind of information or sensory input from watching something on a screen. That’s why reading is superior to all other formats and it’s a great reason to listen to iPod audio books, or at least to turn someone else onto iPod audio books.
Reading makes you smarter, it sparks creativity and it offers a way of escape you just can’t get anywhere else. If you don’t have time to sit down with a good book, at least put an iPod audio book on and listen to your favorite book while you’re doing something else, like walking to work or working out. It’s a convenient way to get the benefits of reading without actually picking up a book.
